Intervista alle Taxi Taxi! ITA/ENG

TaxiTaxi!_by_Olivier_Donnet_1Intervista alle gemelle Johanna e Miriam Eriksson Berhan ovvero le Taxi Taxi!.

– Versione italiana –

– Miriam: All’inizio suonavamo in altre band con alcuni amici.

– Com’è nato “Still Standing At Your Back Door” (qui la recensione di “Still Standing At Your Back Door“)?

– Johanna: Alcune canzoni che abbiamo registrato risalgono a tanto tempo fa. Almeno… quattro anni fa. Diciamo che “Still Standing At Your Back Door” è nato quando è stata scritta la prima canzone. Tutto l’album parla dell’amore nelle sue diverse forme.

– English version –

– Let’s start from the beginning: what is the story of Taxi Taxi!?

– Miriam: Well, we first played in another band, with a few of our friends. It was a typical teenage band, you know the kind. Johanna had written two songs that she felt didn’t fit in that band. So we recorded them, just the two of us, and put them out on myspace for our friends to hear. Some  good people in music business came across them, and contacted us. That’s basically how TT! was formed 🙂

– Why this name, Taxi Taxi!?

– I (Miriam) got a postcard from my best friend, when she was in NYC, she wrote about a yellow taxi cab. So we chose the name after a few bad suggestions.

– Can you explain the origin of “Still Standing At Your Back Door”?

– Johanna: Some of the songs where very old when we recorded them. At least… four years old. So let’s say, “Still Standing At Your Back Door” started when the first song was written. The whole record is about love in different shapes. The title song is about waiting for someone in years, behind his back door, and then he moves away without even noticing you and you realize you’ve been wasting your years and that you’re rottening while only aware of someone else instead of aware of yourself. Still, this door reminds you so much about your love for him and how beautiful he is, you keep standing there. Eventhough he’s not there anymore. Romantic… haha. I don’t know if I answered the question properly…?

– I really loved your disc, in fact this was included in my 10 albums of the year 2009. In my review I wrote “Taxi Taxi! are the living proof that a super-production is not necessary  to make such an excellent album”. Do you agree?

– Johanna: Thanks! That’s a wonderful thing to hear. For us it felt like a superproduction, I think, haha. We’re so used to touring and playing with only the two of us, so having so many good musicians around us was a true luxury.

– You’ve played many times with your compatriots Kings of Convenience, how were these experiences? Some say you are the girly version of them…

– Miriam: Mm, KoC is friends of ours since before, so it was a very comfortable and fun tour! Their audience fitted us very well, and that was great. To be support act for a bigger band can often be difficult if the support and the main act gives the audience different vibes from each other. But I think that our performances was a good match.

– Next plans? Maybe a tour?

Miriam: Ja! We’re going on tour again in march. Looking forward!! March is a quite boring month in Stockholm, the weather is often very muddy and grey. So I think we’re leaving in exactly the right time. We’re going to Belgium, Germany, France, England, Portugal, Italy, Austria… It’s going to be so much fun, since we’re four people on stage on the tour, and we’re travelling with a van + driver. Except from touring, we will try to write many songs, and to find a good place to live.

Johanna: I’m as well longing sooo much for that tour! AND to find an own place to live. I’m thinking and talking about homes all day long. I hope that’s what the next record will be about; finding home.
