Intervista agli Orchid Ita/Eng

– Perché avete incluso nell’EP He Who Walks Alone, brano che faceva già parte di “Capricorn”?

O sbaglio?

– Certo! Abbiamo quasi finito le registrazioni. Saremo molto sollevati quando saranno finite.

With their fresh new contract with the major label Nuclear Blast, the American band Orchid release their EP “Heretic” as an anticipation for their new album, which is due for release in 2013. The band’s guitar player, Mark Thomas Baker, kindly answered our questions.

– Your debut album, “Capricorn”, had an extraordinary success, probably against all odds. Did you expect it?

– I guess I expected some people to like it. You’re never really sure what’s going to happen when you release something. We thought it had some good songs on it. I’m not sure if I’d consider the success “extraordinary” though.

– Signing for Nuclear Blast has been a big step forward for you. How did you manage to catch the label’s attention?

– I’m not sure. There were other labels talking to us as well. Maybe they heard it through the industry grapevine and wondered what all the fuss was about.

Falling Away is one of the most interesting songs from “Heretic2. It evokes some of the atmospheres from the first Black Sabbath records. How was it written?

– Theo wanted to do a song that had a lot of space and atmosphere involved. This is what he came up with. It took a few tries to get it right.

– Why did you include in the EP He Who Walks Alone, a song that was part of “Capricorn”?

– Nuclear Blast wanted to include it on the EP.

– In April you took part at the Roadburn Festival. How did it go?

– Roadburn was really cool. I wish we could have stayed for another day or two. The staff there was very nice.

– Orchid, Witchcraft and Graveyard: the hard rock “trilogy” by Nuclear Blast. Did you ever think of doing a tour together?

– That sounds like it would be a pretty cool tour. Do you know anyone who runs a booking agency?

– Is “Witch Rock” still the right word to describe your sound?

– Sometimes it still sounds pretty witchy. I’m not sure if we’re still witch rock. Maybe warlock rock sounds better…

– I can imagine you’re busy writing the new album, or not?

– Yes, for sure! almost done recording it. We’ll be very relieved when it’s over.
